Today we visited several places in Metz. We started at the Metz train station which is noted to be the most beautiful station in France. We then strolled over to see the Serpentine Gate and the Palais du Gouverneur Militaire building which serves as the official residence and workplace of the General Military Governor of the Northeast military region of France. Our next stop was the New Temple which is a Protestant Church that sits on a small island in the Moselle River. And, last of all, the Metz Cathedral which is often referred to as “God’s Lantern”.  Construction began around 1220 and was completed around 1552. Metz Cathedral boasts an astounding 6,500 square meters (approximately 70,000 square feet) of stained glass, the largest expanse of stained glass in any single religious building in the world. It is an amazing church!
