Heidelberg, Germany

Heidelberg is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Germany and I would agree that it is quite lovely. It is also home to the oldest university in Germany which was founded in 1386. Today we rode the funicular up to the Heidelberg Castle which dates back to the 13th century. Much of it is in ruins but it is still an amazing site to see. The views of the city and surrounding countryside are amazing. We also strolled through “old town” with so many interesting sites to see. We visited the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Jesuitenkirche (Jesuit Church). My favorite was the Jesuit Church which has a striking, bright white interior. It really is an unusual church as so many that we visit have dark interiors. This one was bright and refreshing. It was a great day in Heidelberg!
